Mercedes-Benz Concept EQ at The 147th Open

If you followed The Open at Carnoustie this past week, then you will notice the great presence of Mercedes-Benz. As the ‘Official Car’ and ‘The Official Sponsor’ of The 147 opened, the brand was showing their luxury engine around the small Scottish town during the event.

Now normally just thinking of golf is enough to make me yawn but because the event was held just a stone throw away from my home town, it happened to draw attention. And I’m really glad it did. So, without further ado, these are the highlights from the brand week at the prestigious golf event here in Scotland …

Getting to the Earth

This year, brands are firmly focused on sustainability. Destroyed to prove that the electric motors can be ‘sporty, elegant, intelligent and durable’, all the new Mercedes-Benz EQ Concepts are on display at the Spectators’ Village and are the vehicle of choice for the winner. Last year’s winner was Jordan Spieth when he handed the cup to R & A.

The EQ concept is just one of the latest ‘Next Generation’ models from Mercedes’s new sub-brand, to combine ’emotion’ and ‘intelligence’ through a variety of comfortable engines. Connect and sustain in their new platform.

The model in question is provided by a pair of electronic motors capable of producing about 300 kW and offers a range of up to 310 miles. EQ is also equipped with a large number of driver assistance and advanced technology, in true electrical fashion.

Back to Jar Claret

One of the highlights of each Open is the return of the Claret Jug – the prestigious Open Cup – with R & A by St Andrews, where it is safely stored for the next winner.

On Monday, at the start of the case, 2017 Champion Golfer of the Year in Jordan Spieth drove in the Concept EQ provided by Mercedes-Benz to bring it right home. You can watch the footage here …

Drivetribe are not brands ambassadors only

Mercedes-Benz Golf has a total of four highly skilled and inspirational ambassadors who have competed for one another in this event.

Ambassadors are Bernhard Langer, winner of The Senior Open 2017, Haotong Li, who was No. 3 last year; and Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm – two of the top ten players in the official golf world rankings!

Here, Rickie Fowler shares his advice on tournament etiquette …

Vehicle of people

But events are not all for expressing and scoring. In fact, before the start of the opening, Mercedes created the “Win a trip in a car of their own” contest, giving some lucky visitors a glamorous entrance to the big event. .

If you want to come in style, then surely the car is worse to be seen in than a whole new GLE …

So there you are. I still do not believe I will become a fan of golf but the weekend events definitely opened my eyes.
